Chad Pitman Rotten Apples Photo and oil paint on board 55" x 74"
Chad Pitman has always been fascinated with photography even from a young age. His grandfather, who worked in advertising, taught him how persuasive an image could be. Being exposed early on to the iconic and sleek advertisements from the 60’s left an indelible impression on him. Pitman employs the use of bold color, balance and visual manipulation that are used to such effect in advertising. He combines collage and personal reappropriation in his own work, using his own photographs as the canvas. His brush strokes are both playful and disruptive, deconstructing the original photograph into something new entirely.
For the 3rd installment of the CASH MACHINE x Alias Books East 1 piece 1 wall series, Pitman will unveil ROTTEN APPLES. In this piece Pitman shoots “rotten apples” that have been spray painted into a new life then covered in cloth. Windows have been cut from the cloth to reveal the fruit below. Textures swirl grabbing hold of whats beneath the surface while Pitman deconstructs the piece one more time with oil paint building on light, shadows, and nature.
In addition to unveiling Rotten Apples, Chad will be selecting his top 5 book picks at Alias on the 18th from 7 - 9 pm. Please join us!
Pitman's recent publications Waves Asphalt Light and Valley Pines will be available for purchase.
